Don't Just Communicate - Tell Them a Story!

September 1, 2010

Communicators in all kinds of fields are suffering from an obsession with delivery vehicles – call it "Platform Envy" – and worrying about how to best reach their audience. Print? YouTube? Twitter? Blogs? But strip it all away and the important issue is: What are you saying and how are you saying it? Former journalist Ken Garfield, the longtime religion editor for The Charlotte Observer, will talk about the importance of storytelling in communications – what it is, how it differs from the plain-vanilla style of conveying information, and how you can use it to strengthen your message whatever it might be and whatever platform you use to deliver it. Ken will draw on his current experience as communications director for Myers Park United Methodist Church to show how he tailors his message (and delivery platform) to resonate with each segment of his diverse audience. Come to hear Ken's insights and join in the conversation!
