CHAPTER GOALS

Focus on reputation, accessibility and value

At IABC/Charlotte, we understand the value of clear vision, goals and strategy. Our success relies on effective planning and execution.

Our vision:

To be the premier communications organization for the Charlotte area based on reputation, accessibility and value.

Our goals and strategies:

The IABC/Charlotte board had three strategic planning sessions to shape the goals and programs for the year. We recognize that a larger chapter is of greater value to members for two key reasons: larger chapters can provide more expert resources for professional development and larger chapters allow more informal networking among communicators with common interests. Therefore, we set the following goals and strategies for the 2004/2005 program year:

We set realistic goals to gradually build membership to more than 100:

  • Increase membership to 70 paid members by Sept. 1, 2005
  • Increase the diversity of members to include more Black, Hispanic, and Asian communicators and communicators from global organizations.

We agree to accomplish the goals through these key strategies:

  • We will create member recruitment and retention plans that make being a part of IABC/Charlotte a fun and professionally enriching experience.
  • We will plan and deliver a variety of professional development opportunities that appeal to diverse interests and that vary in depth and atmosphere, to make programs valuable for different groups of people.
  • We will create clear benefits to membership, including a members-only section of our website, member-only networking events and event pricing that creates a clear benefit for members.
  • We will restructure the website to reduce the clutter and create an easy-to-navigate calendar and resource for communicating the chapter’s programs and opportunities for involvement.
  • We will do all of the above to the best of our abilities, recognizing that our board and other members are volunteers and must work IABC activities around hectic schedules.
